Then & Now: Hyattsville's B&O Depot

Here's a look at an old train station.

The Baltimore & Ohio Washington Branch began operations in 1835. This depot, on Route 1 Alt. east of the railroad tracks, replaced a smaller station. It was opened in August 1884 during the railroad's largest period of expansion. 

The depot was one of the railroad's largest, designed by their architect E. Francis Baldwin in his quintessential style. The station agent here was responsible for telegraph operations, freight and express operations, and baggage and ticket management.
