Weather Strikes Out DeMatha's Westfield Scrimmage
Stags get limited reps in shortened scrimmage.
Inclement weather cut Elijah Brooks’ coaching debut short.
Brooks, a 2002 graduate of , replaced legendary head, earlier this year. The Stags made the 31 mile trip to Chantilly, VA., Friday evening to play their first scrimmage of the season against the Westfield High School Bulldogs.
Picturesque weather at kickoff turned ugly in the game’s opening quarter. Lighting flashed in the distance while storm clouds rolled in dropping large amounts of rain.

Players, coaches and fans from both teams raced to their cars and school buildings for cover. Referees called the game after it became apparent that the lightning strikes were not ceasing.
A youthful DeMatha team, who trailed 14-0 when the game was called, showed signs of early season rust during their brief time on the field. Turnovers plagued the Stags as the team fumbled and threw an interception in the first quarter.
