Woman, 20, Found Dead Along Hyattsville Trail

Authorities identified the victim whose body was found Friday.

A 20-year-old Hyattsville woman was found dead on Friday along the Northwest Branch Trail, according to Prince George’s County Police.

Authorities are working to identify and arrest the suspect who killed the victim, identified as Catherine Alvarado. After preliminary investigation, detectives do not believe this was a random act.

Patrol officers with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department were called to the trail in the 6100 block of Ager Road for a welfare check around 7:20 a.m. on Jan. 1. Authorities found Alvarado suffering from trauma to the upper body, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
