Since opening in 1921, Mizell Lumber & Hardware has been a staple of Kensington's business community, but its owners are closing the store this week due to declining sales, according to The Washington Post.
The store's last day will likely be Wednesday, a clerk said, bringing an end to 90 years in town and 80 years at the store's .
Co-owner Jeannine Mizell told the Post that the store has long struggled to compete with big-box outfits like Home Depot, and that the Kensington business never quite recovered from the recession.
