Bites Nearby: Mia's Pizza

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in, but we've got a better idea. Each week, Kensington Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that's worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

A poor man's 2 Amys, that's . Mia's has many of the same elements that make 2 Amys so incredible: fresh ingredients, crisp crust, bursting flavor, attention to detail. But it lacks that extra something that distinguishes 2 Amys from other area pizzerias.

Yet, there isn't much to complain about here. The patio is inviting, bottles of wine are 50 percent off on Wednesdays, the staff is warm and friendly, and there are some rarities included on the menu — deviled eggs, for one.

Mia's allows 20-minute call-ahead seating, and it's a wise choice, because the place can fill up, especially on the weekends.

Parking is a hassle, as is frequently the case in Bethesda, but it's worth the work. Overall, the more places that serve pizza that isn't overwhelmed with toppings and superfluous cheese, the better.

4926 Cordell Avenue, Bethesda. Tue-Thu 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Fri-Sat 11:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m., Sun 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
