Frugal Family: Five Deals to Stretch the Family Budget

Welcome back to our weekly rundown of five local deals to help with your family’s bottom line. Since we do the scouting, we save you time as well as money.

This week we scoured our local sources and found deals on clothing for the kids, mom, and dad's suits; a kid's meal deal, a free soft pretzel with snack purchase; and buy-one-get-one-free grocery deals, adding up to big savings on meals at home. Remember to check with the merchant for additional conditions, if any:

Deals:  1. Get 40 percent off one regularly priced item on Wednesdays by showing the 40 percent Facebook status update for Gap at White Flint (0r print it out. Get 45 percent off if you use a Gap card).  2. Save $15 on a purchase of $75 more when you sign up for the email list (savings code will be emailed to you).

Deal:  Buy one men's designer suit and get a second one for $100; also buy one tie and save 50 percent on a second.

Deal: Feed the kids for $1 on Tuesdays—Up to two kid's meals (from the kid's menu) for $1 each, with the purchase of one adult entree. (And for grown-ups, come back on Sunday for happy hour prices all day).

Good through:  Kid's meal special ongoing on Tuesdays; All-day Happy Hour every Sunday.

4. Free Soft Pretzel:  , 7107 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda, 301-365-1879. (Montgomery Mall)

Deal:  Get a free Signature Pretzel with the purchase of any Stix or Pretzel Dog and regular drink of your choice, by printing the coupon from Salelocator.

Good through:  Expires March 31.

5. Buy-one-get-one-free Grocery Savings: Giant Food, 7142 Arlington Road, Bethesda, 301-492-5160 (and other locations).

Deal:  This week's grocery specials include Yukon Gold Potatoes, buy one get one free (five pound bag) or onions (three pound bag). Add a few of this week's "10 for $10," items, including Giant canned tomatoes, steam-ready frozen vegetables Bumblebee tuna; or Purdue chicken leg quarters at 99 cent per pound, for a week's worth of big savings on meals.
