Kensington Council Passes Resolution in Support of Sidewalk

Capitol View residents asked for the town's support.

The Kensington Town Council passed a resolution Monday night in support of a sidewalk being built to connect Capitol View to Metropolitan Avenue.

Councilmember Sean McMullen raised concern about whether the town would be financially responsible for the sidewalk, but Mayor Peter Fosselman said that since it's not within the town limits, there is no fiscal responsibility on the town.

Councilmember Lydia Sullivan asked that the town hold off on passing a resolution in order to take more time to look in to subject. Sullivan said she wouldn't want to pass a resolution that could possibly affect the historic district of the Capitol View neighborhood.

The mayor said that if the plan affected the historic aspects of the area, the sidewalk would not be approved, but that the residents of Capitol View asked for support so that the sidewalk could be included in the 2013 county capital improvements budget.ย

The town passed the resolution of support 3 to 1 with Sullivan voting in opposition.
