Kensington Murder: Man Shoots Partner Following Dispute, Cops Say

A 48-year-old man from Kensington has been charged with murder after police say he fatally shot a woman who was living with him.

KENSINGTON, MD — A Kensington man faces a murder charge after police say he fatally shot a woman who was living with him.

Alejandro Jose Perez de Leon, 48, has been charged with the first-degree murder of his partner, 33-year-old Silvia Elenia Fernandez. Authorities believe Perez de Leon shot Fernandez after they got into a domestic-related argument on Tuesday. The pair lived together in a basement apartment on Shaftesbury Street.

According to Montgomery County Police, officers responded to the Kensington home around 10 p.m. after receiving a call about a shooting. They found Fernandez dead at the scene.

Perez de Leon, who was still at home, was arrested. A handgun was found close to the victim, police said.

The suspect was taken to the Central Processing Unit in Rockville for booking and was charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond.
