Kensington to Host Marriage Equality Event Sunday with Gov. Oโ€™Malley

Town Hall event is in support of Question 6.

Maryland Gov. Martin Oโ€™Malley, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Attorney General Douglas Gansler will host an event Sunday inย support of marriage equality in Maryland. The event is scheduled to take place from 4 to 6 p.m.ย at the Kensington Town Hall/Armory.

The fundraiser includes a screening of the documentary Gen Silent, a film concerning challenges that LGBT elders face.

Question 6, which would legalize marriage among same sex-couples inย Maryland, will be on the ballot in November. The full text of the question is as follows:

Establishes that Marylandโ€™s civil marriage laws allow gay and lesbian couples to obtain a civil marriage license, provided they are not otherwise prohibited from marrying; protects clergy from having to perform any particular marriage ceremony in violation of their religious beliefs; affirms that each religious faith has exclusive control over its own theological doctrine regarding who may marry within that faith; and provides that religious organizations and certain related entities are not required to provide goods, services , or benefits to an individual related to the celebration or promotion of marriage in violation of their religious beliefs.
