KVFD Awarded $128K Grant

The will receive $128,200 in federal grant money for new equipment, Rep. Chris Van Hollen announced Tuesday.

The money comes from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant, and it will help KVFD buy new hoses and turnout gear and respond to emergencies more efficiently, Van Hollen said in a statement.

“First responders put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and our homes, and this vital funding will go a long way in helping them keep our community safe,” Van Hollen said. “We will continue working to ensure that our brave firefighters have the funding and equipment necessary to do their jobs.”

Sens. Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski joined Van Hollen in the announcement, and Mikulski said fully funding volunteer fire departments is integral to keeping neighborhoods safe.

“Every day, when our first responders report for duty, they don’t know what they will face," she said. "That’s why I fight every year for the equipment, trainingand staffing our protectors and communities deserve.”
