Rockville Woman Dies In Kensington Crash: Police

A Rockville woman died Friday in a Kensington crash after a car slammed into a fire hydrant and power pole, authorities say.

KENSINGTON, MD — Authorities have released the name of a Rockville woman who was killed Friday night in a crash at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Franklin Street in Kensington. The two-vehicle crash was reported about 6 p.m., according to Montgomery County Police.

Investigators say a 2014 Toyota Camry was northbound on Connecticut Avenue at Franklin Street. A 2014 Ford C-Max was southbound on Connecticut Avenue and attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Franklin Street. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, Jose Luis Fajardo Romero, 21, of Middlevale Lane in Silver Spring, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Ford C-Max, Sharon Schatzberg Hormby, 62, of Bitterroot Way in Rockville, was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

One of the cars involved also struck a fire hydrant and power pole, said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Pete Piringer.

The crash closed lanes on Connecticut Avenue for about four hours.
