This benefit concerts features award-winning jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon, who is celebrating the release of her latest album, Homefree. Proceeds will benefit the Bowie State University scholarship fund, and the school's jazz ensemble will open the show. Tickets range from $20 to $40, and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

Before kicking off its 2011-12 season, the BSO is presenting a preview of performances to come. Conductor Marin Alsop will guide the orchestra through works by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Copland and others. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are $10.
