Upcoming at Strathmore: Vivir Brazil, Friday Night Eclectic

A hip-hop violinist, Brazilian dance, and a performance by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Here’s a quick look at what’s coming up at Strathmore.

April 12Vivir Brazil: Feet on the Ground

This award-winning, traditional Brazilian company will entertain the audience with ancient Afro-Brazilian ceremonial dances and the martial arts-styled capoeira. The program is Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Music Center.

April 13Joshua Bell and Academy of St. Martin at the Fields
New music director Joshua Bell will lead Academy of St. Martin at the Fields in an all-Beethoven program, which will juxtapose three of his works. Program begins at 8 p.m. at the Music Center. Program is subject to change.

Friday Night Eclectic: Chelsey Green and the Green Project with Synchronicity
Former Strathmore Artist in Residence Chelsey Green is anything but traditional, melding classical techniques with jazz, hip-hop, rock and soul. She’s joined by the Africa-based percussion and classical string instrumentation of Synchronicity. The event will be held at the Mansion and is standing room only. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the program begins at 9 p.m.

Creating the Magic
CityDance faculty members, Conservatory students, and resident and guest artist have created a showcase to “create the magic” with performance including “high-level technique and innovative student choreography.” The event begins at 8:15 p.m. in the Education Wing. Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased through the website. The program will be held again on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. and Sunday with performances at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

April 14Art Talk for Adults
A tour and talk of the current collection. The event is free and begins at 1 p.m. in the Mansion. No reservations are required. 

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: Romeo and Juliet
Former Associate Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, 24-year-old Lionel Bringuier makes his BSO debut and accompanies concert-master Jonathan Carney in this performance. Program begins at 8 p.m. at the Music Center. Tickets range from $38-98 and can be purchased online.
