Stay up to date on everything new around town with the Laurel Daily.

(Patch Media)

Hey, Laurel! It's Monday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 58 Low: 40.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. Prince George's County's health department recently announced that its COVID-19 case numbers are on a downward trajectory. The county could dip into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "moderate" transmission category soon. As of Oct. 29, the county stands at 56.09 new cases per week per 100,000 residents. (WTOP)
  2. Last Thursday, state legislators told Maryland's Labor Secretary Tiffany Robinson that Maryland's mobile application for unemployment assistance needs better functionality and accessibility. Since 2020, Robinson and her office have been accused of having an overloaded system that has been frustrating thousands of Marylanders who are trying to get their unemployment claims processed during the COVID-19 pandemic. (MarylandReporter.com)
  3. Boundaries are changing for Prince George's County Schools within the next two to three years. Parents are encouraged to attend a virtual meeting tomorrow and give their input! A change in school boundaries could mean a change in where children attend school within the next two to three years. This could impact families. Attendees of this virtual meeting will learn about the school boundary process and be able to affect the final decision for adjusting school boundaries for PGCPS. (Eventbrite)
