First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny; breezy, cooler. High: 48 Low: 25.

Here are the top four stories today in Laurel:

  1. President Joe Biden signed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill into law. Now WSSC Water leaders are hopeful that they will receive a significant portion of the funding. The water utility, which serves Prince George's and Montgomery counties, is user-funded and does not receive county, state, or federal funding. (WJLA)
  2. Anthony Brown's Attorney General bid was recently endorsed by the majority of Prince George's County Council. Nine of the 10 council members praised Brown as "someone who embodies the spirit of equity and opportunity for all Marylanders." Tom Dernoga of Laurel was the only council member who hasn't endorsed Brown. (The Washington Informer)
  3. The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services plans to close four juvenile facilities and expand capacity at one in Prince George's County as part of a plan to move state-detained youths closer to home. State officials desire an expansion of the Cheltenham Youth Detention Facility in Prince George's County to include a new 24-bed all-girls detention wing by the end of fiscal year 2025. (Baltimore Sun)
  4. According to Governor Larry Hogan, Maryland has surpassed 9 million COVID-19 vaccinations. Gov. Hogan said that Maryland's vaccination campaign is one of the most successful in the country. He said that the state has a robust network of providers that continues to have the supply and the capacity to provide a vaccine or a booster shot to anyone who needs one. The focus now is getting more school age children vaccinated. (Maryland.gov)
