🌱 County Executive To Help PGCPS BOE + Veterans Day Closings
The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing around town today.

Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Alexis Goring, your host of the Laurel Daily.
First, today's weather:
Some sun, then clouds; mild. High: 65 Low: 57.
Here are the top four stories today in Laurel:
- Maryland casinos had a new top earner in October. Live Casino & Hotel eclipsed the takings of the state's revenue leader of the past four years, MGM National Harbor. MGM National Harbor saw its year-over-year revenue decline, pulling in $55.9 million in October. The numbers come as part of the state's monthly casino industry revenue report. The Prince George's County casino's numbers surpassed Live's beginning in March 2017 and it has held the lead since then. The only exception was in June 2020, when partial coronavirus-era re-openings placed casinos on an uneven playing field. (Baltimore Business Journal)
- Today (Veterans Day) is a federal holiday. We are celebrating all those who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Pay attention to the local openings and closures today: Laurel city offices are closed. Thursday trash and recycling in Laurel will be picked up on Friday. Thursday leaf vacuuming in Laurel will take place Friday. There will be no bulky item pickup or yard debris pickups in Laurel this week. (Patch)
- Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks is naming a task force to review the Maryland school system's Board of Education and issue recommendations for revamping this board plagued by controversy, arguments and allegations of misconduct. Alsobrooks said the purpose of the task force is to "study best practices regionally and nationally and deliver recommendations to County leadership that will guide us in creating a Board structure that facilitates collaboration and helps us continue to move our school system forward."
