Fireworks Illegal In City Of Laurel, PG County

From The City of Laurel: Mayor Craig A. Moe wishes to let residents know that Independence Day is just a couple weeks away and he is reminding everyone that fireworks are illegal in the City of Laurel and Prince George’s County!

City of Laurel Fire Marshal, Dave Cope, warns that selling, possessing or using any type of fireworks in the City and County will result in the confiscation of fireworks, with fines up to $250

Mayor Craig A. Moe advises residents to please leave the fireworks to the professionals. If you attend a fireworks event, please keep an eye on children and stay clear from where the fireworks are being setup and launched.

Inspectors from the Department of Fire Marshal and Permit Services will be canvassing the City on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, as well as during and after the City’s Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, July 7, 2018, to ensure there are no illegal fireworks being used or sold. If found, they will be confiscated and fines will be issued.

The biggest burn culprits are hand-held sparklers, which burn at approximately 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, and leads to permanent disfigurement. Statistics also show that illegal and poorly discarded fireworks cause an average of 20,000 reported fires a year!
