Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

1. After Prince George’s County failed to meet requirements under a municipal stormwater permit, the Maryland Department of the Environment has required it to complete environmental projects that will treat runoff, according to an announcement Tuesday. The county will have to pay $475,000 if it does not complete the projects required under the Municipal Separate Sewer System permit, also known as an MS4 permit, that MDE issued the county in 2014. The projects must be completed by Dec. 31, 2024. (Baltimore Sun)

2. There are four upcoming open houses in the Laurel area. Learn about the properties currently on the market near you and visit your future dream home in person! The list includes the home address, photo, price, home size and open-house time for each property — including one with four beds and four baths for $499,900 and another with three beds and two baths for $397,000. Get a feel for what’s out there before making the big decision. (Patch)

3. As of June 1, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maryland is at 459,995. The number of deaths in Maryland is at 9,404. There have been 3,488,255 negative test results, and the testing volume is at 10,418,722. Positivity testing rate is at 1.42%, and hospitalizations are at 336. Now, all Marylanders age 16 and older are allowed to receive vaccinations at all vaccination sites. Key metric numbers continue to look great! So please continue to help your family, friends and community by remembering to wash your hands, social distance, and wear a mask if in large gatherings and not vaccinated.   • Wawa Grand Opening in Laurel – Wawa is opening its first store in Laurel today (June 3) and they want you to join us for the fun! Doors open at 8:00 a.m. with limited edition Wawa t-shirts for the first 50 customers through the door. The outdoor ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 9:00 a.m. with remarks from representatives from the City of Laurel. Wawa will offer their signature Hoagies for Heroes lunch for the Laurel Police Department and Laurel Fire Department. There will be an appearance by Wally Goose mascot. Free coffee will be served from opening day thru June 13! (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.)
  • Chair/Desk Yoga (Livestream) – Chair/Office Yoga increases physical flexibility and strength as well as mind and body awareness, coordination, mental clarity and general relaxation. This class is for you if you work for long hours at your desk (or may be watching TV) and need to oxygenate properly, release eye, neck, shoulder, and arm strain, move and stretch in the middle of a busy work day and feel relaxed, reenergized and focused.   • Manna for Moms – Study the Bible with other Moms. Share your struggles and celebrate joys with women who understand. Manna for Moms meets every Thursday. They are meeting on Zoom during this pandemic, but they hope to resume their meetings inside the church when it is safe to do so. (10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)
  • Laurel Dutch Country Farmers Market - Located at 9701 Fort Meade Road, the market is open this Thursday. (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
