Horizon Foundation Councils Hold Orientation for Students

Young members discussion attributes of effective leadership in preparation for meetings and activities

Student member of The Horizon Foundation’s Community Councils recently attended an orientation in preparation for participation in the meetings and activities of the geographic-based advisory groups.

The four Councils – in Elkridge, Ellicott City, Southeast and Western Howard County – are comprised of community leaders, including middle and high school students, who live and/or work in the geographic area they represent. Each Council meets monthly from September through April.

The major exercise of the student orientation focused on leadership, with the students determining that courage was the major attribute of a good leader, followed by commitment, conviction, integrity, flexibility and the ability to delegate. Students are selected for participation in the Horizon Councils by educators.
