Howard County Office of Human Rights Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

COLUMBIA, MD – On September 29th, the Howard County Office of Human Rights and Friends of Latin America will hold a “Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration” to commemorate the numerous contributions Hispanic/Latino Americans have made to enrich the fabric of the United States and Howard County. Additionally, there will be presentations and speakers highlighting resources for those who face discrimination. The family-friendly, interactive program will feature dance and musical performances, arts and crafts, food tasting and more! It is free of charge, but space is limited. “The history of Howard County, and our nation, is inextricable from the contributions of our Hispanic and Latino communities. During this Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate their remarkable stories, cultures and service to our country,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “At our celebration event, and throughout the month, let us come together to honor the cultures of our Hispanic and Latino residents and renew the bonds of our common humanity.”

“Fostering appreciation for our neighbors’ cultural differences and contributions is key to every resident enjoying a quality of life, free from discrimination,” said Howard County Office of Human Rights Administrator Yolanda F. Sonnier. “Assembling as a community to celebrate victories in times of joy or offer comfort in times of sorrow keeps us human and encourages us to advocate for each other.”
