Laurel Parking Lot Converted Into Green Space
Numerous green amenities have been created, including a dog park, community garden and outdoor family fitness area.
LAUREL, MD — Paddock Pointe, a master-planned community adjacent to the Maryland Jockey Club at Laurel Park, has tackled the project of transforming a run-down old parking lot into an eco-conscious area.
Since breaking ground in 2019, the Paddock Pointe team partnered with Howard EcoWorks, a local nonprofit that administers green jobs training programs, to work on the project and create a continuous water flow to support local wildlife.
This past year both entities completed numerous sustainability projects, including creating community rain gardens, clearing trash and debris from waterways, forest restoration and stream restoration maintenance work. Thanks to the restoration, Paddock Pointe residents soon will be able to enjoy numerous green amenities, including a dog park, community garden and outdoor family fitness area.
