🌱Laurel Police Help Widow + Black Friday Sales + Holiday Art

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

(Patch Media)

Hey, people of Laurel! It's me again, Alexis Goring, your host of the Laurel Daily.

First, today's weather:

Windy and cooler. High: 43 Low: 29.

Here are the top four stories today in Laurel:

  1. While Deborah Smith, a widow, was shopping in a Laurel store, her '95 Ford Ranger truck was stolen. She was most concerned about her late husband's Vietnam veteran cap that she kept in the truck to remember him. Her husband served in the Air Force. Two men stole her truck and drove away. One of the men was wearing the cap. In less than five minutes, Laurel police officers were on the scene and immediately went to work. They found her vehicle before their shift was over, but could not recover the cap. (delmarvalife.com)
  2. According to former Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Maryland has a "very high vaccination rate" so the state is unlikely to experience a "huge" winter surge in critical COVID-19 infections. Data from the Department of Health shows that 88% of Marylanders are partially vaccinated and about 62% are fully vaccinated. Sharfstein also discussed the importance of booster shots, as well as the debate over both mask and vaccine mandates. (MarylandReporter.com)
  3. Thursday, Governor Larry Hogan thanked Marylanders for shopping and eating local by incorporating products that were grown, produced, or harvested in Maryland into their Thanksgiving meals. He said to thank a local farmer. Agriculture continues to be Maryland's leading industry. More than 160 turkey farms call this state home. (Maryland.gov)
  4. A male resident of Prince George's County is facing prison time for scheming to sell pit bull puppies that buyers said they never received. Fonjeck Eric Azoh pleaded guilty to a wire fraud charge. Prosecutors said that Azoh advertised the sale of the puppies using various websites. They said that Azoh did not intend to provide the puppies and directed victims to send money to him through various money transfer businesses. He duped more than 100 victims nationwide out of over $158,000. (WTOP)
