Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
1. Corvias Foundation, a private foundation founded by Corvias CEO John Picerne to support education opportunities for military families, announced May 25 that it awarded a college scholarship worth up to $50,000 to high school senior and Laurel resident, Kymia Jacquelyn Collins. The scholarship will provide Collins with dependable and recurring financial assistance for each of her four academic years. The Corvias Foundation gives students a portion of their total scholarship amount per year to pursue their higher education degrees at institutions across the country. (Business Wire)

2. On May 24, officers observed a subject loitering around Motel 6 located at 3510 Old Annapolis Road in Laurel for an extended period of time. Officers made contact with the subject and received permission to look inside of a satchel he was wearing. When they opened it and found a loaded Smith and Wesson M & P Shield 9mm semi-automatic handgun containing five rounds, they arrested the suspect (Delorenzo Stewart Jelaney) and charged him. 3. On May 22 at approximately 11:30 p.m. the victim approached a Western District officer to report an attempted robbery that occurred 15 minutes prior. The victim stated the suspect approached him as he was pumping gas at the Exxon located at 3384 Fort Meade Road in Laurel. The victim stated the suspect demanded money then sprayed him with suspected pepper spray. The suspect was last seen leaving in a white sedan, possibly a Nissan. Detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information to call 410-222-6155. (Anne Arundel County)

The LHS May Collections Conversation will be moderated by Laurel Historical Society President Jhanna Levin with guest panelists Randy Kroop and Valerie Kaplan. Together they will explore this little-known history of Laurel. This is a free event. (7:00 p.m.)
- Manna for Moms – Study the Bible with other Moms. Share your struggles and celebrate joys with women who understand. Manna for Moms meets every Thursday. They are meeting on Zoom during this pandemic, but they hope to resume their meetings inside the church when it is safe to do so. (10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)
- Laurel Dutch Country Farmers Market - Located at 9701 Fort Meade Road, is open this Thursday (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
- 52nd Annual Laurel Art Guild Juried Exhibition – This event will take place inside the Montpelier Arts Center on May 27. (11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
- Free Acupuncture – This event is part of the Community Health Initiative (CHI). Treatment provided during this event will help you settle deeply into yourself and remember how to relax and mend. Once treatments have begun and participants are resting comfortably in our zero-gravity chairs, the lights are lowered and music begins to play, adding to the meditative quality of this experience. Limit: Six participants per seating to ensure a safe, physically distanced and peaceful experience. (12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
