Monarch Global Academy holds open houses

Monarch Global Academy, a tuition-free public contract school in Anne Arundel County, will hold open house informational sessions for prospective students Tuesdays, Oct. 14, Nov. 18 and Dec. 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Monarch Global Academy, 430 Brock Bridge Road in Laurel, Md. Public contract schools are publicly funded and open to all students regardless of testing or screening.

Monarch Global Academy is accepting applications for fall 2015 from students living in the attendance areas of Brock Bridge, Maryland City and Jessup elementary schools in Anne Arundel County for kindergarten through sixth grade. The application deadline is Dec. 17 at noon.

The school opened in a newly built, $12-million building this fall to students in kindergarten through fifth grade and will grow to serve students through eighth grade. The school’s inaugural sixth-grade middle school class will start in fall 2015. The middle school will provide technology education and introduce a one-student-to-one-computer model, where every student has a computer.

Monarch Global Academy follows the International Baccalaureate model, which promotes international-mindedness addressing human commonality, diversity and multiple perspectives. School curriculum encourages creativity, problem solving, teamwork and rigorous study, including Spanish instruction.

In addition to international education, Monarch Global Academy follows the Transformation Education philosophy, which infuses the school’s beliefs and values into the look of the school building, instructional approach, teachers’ mindset and behavior, and operating system. The philosophy integrates neuroscience to create a brain-compatible environment consistent with childhood learning.
