Motel Fire May Have Been Intentionally Set: Fire Officials

Anne Arundel County Fire crews found a man with a self-inflicted neck wound at the scene. Charges may be filed.

A two-alarm fire at the Garden Inn, 3400 Laurel Fort Meade Road in Maryland City, may have intentionally set, authorities say.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department crews arrived at the fire about 6:46 p.m. Thursday to find smoke from one of the rooms and requested a second alarm. The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes by 65 firefighters.

At the scene, firefighters found a 26-year-old man with a serious self-inflicted neck wound. He was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Shock Trauma Baltimore.

Members of the Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit have determined the cause of the fire to be incendiary and charges are being evaluated.

Damage is estimated at $20,000. There were no other injuries.
