Prince George's County Closings, Delays for Tuesday

With the region under a winter storm warning through Tuesday morning, Prince George’s County Public Schools called off classes Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Schools and offices are closed. Emergency personnel only must report to work.

While Bowie city government will be open for business on Tuesday, a liberal leave policy is in effect for employees.
Bowie’s Senior Center, the City Gym and the Genealogy Library are closed to the public because of water problems.

City trash or recycling pickup service has been suspended for Tuesday because both facilities where the city brings its waste are closed. Neighborhoods on the Tuesday trash or recycling schedule will have their trash picked up on Wednesday. In order to accomplish this, special pickup and yard waste pickup are postponed until next Wednedsay.
Transportation officials urged residents not to travel Tuesday if possible. “Stay home,” said State Highway Administration spokesman Charlie Gischlar, just before 5 a.m. He noted pavement temperatures were low (in the teens), snow was continuing to fall and roads may be icy.
Closings, Changes in Prince George’s County
The Prince George’s County Government is closed Tuesday, Feb. 17. Essential employees will be required to report to work. All county buildings will be closed.
Service for TheBus, has been suspended for Tuesday due to inclement weather.
All county-contracted residential trash collection services are suspended and will be picked up on Wednesday, Feb. 18, after the regular collection routes have been completed. All curbside recycling collection services have been suspended and will ‘slide’ one day through the rest of the week. All bulky trash collections scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled and will be picked up on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Collection pickups can occur from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. when services resume.
The Feb. 17 meeting of the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee is cancelled. All agenda items are deferred to the next meeting on March 17. This includes the Public Hearing to fill the District 21 vacancy if there are no objections.
WSSC is closed Tuesday due to weather conditions. Essential employees are expected to report to work as usual. The WSSC 24-Hour Emergency Line remains open at 301.206.4002.
