Prince George's County Public Schools Cancel Saturday Events

Predictions for snow, sleet and freezing rain have prompted Prince George’s County Public Schools officiasl to cancel activities on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Here’s the announcement the school system issued Friday:

The National Weather Service is expecting one to three inches of snowfall on Saturday, followed by snow, freezing rain, and sleet between 9 p.m. and midnight. Saturday night into Sunday morning look for rain, freezing rain, and sleet.

Prince George’s County will deploy about 220 vehicles beginning Saturday at 11 a.m. to treat the primary and major collector roadways first and then move into the residential areas.

Roads may become icy, and drivers are urged to use caution and follow these safety tips:

  • Slow down and add extra time for travel;
  • Keep a safe distance between your car and the car in front of you;
  • Do not follow the snow plow trucks; and
  • Use caution when driving over bridges, ramps and overpasses.

Residents are asked to park on the even-numbered sides of residential streets or in their driveways to help the crews clearing the roads. Final plowing on residential streets will not occur until after the snow ends.

To report roadway conditions, residents are advised to wait 12 hours after the precipitation has stopped before calling CountyClick at 311, the Snow Information Center at 301-350-0500 or go to the Snow Request Form on the County’s website at www.princegeorgescountymd.gov.
