• Lightning strike sparks Mechanicsville house fire during Fourth of July storms (dcnewsnow.com) — A Mechanicsville family escaped safely after lightning struck their Timothy Court home late on the Fourth of July, sparking a major attic fire that destroyed the roof. Nearly 70 firefighters from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding companies battled heavy flames for about 40 minutes and stayed over an hour more to douse hot spots, as severe storms swept the wider DMV region.
