• What's new at D.C.-area schools for the 2026-27 school year (axios.com) — Montgomery County Public Schools, including those serving Montgomery Village, are rolling out a strict "No Cell, Bell to Bell" policy this year, limiting student phone use during the school day. The change comes as Maryland moves toward a statewide ban by 2027-28, while nearby D.C. and Virginia districts add new security, bus-tracking apps, boundary shifts, and mental health supports. 
• $11.3 million grant to boost bike paths, trails in Maryland (wtop.com) — Maryland is investing $11.3 million in bike paths and trail improvements, including projects in Montgomery County that can benefit Montgomery Village cyclists, walkers, and runners. Funding will help rehabilitate sections of the C&O Canal towpath, repair local trails and boardwalks, and expand bikeway connections so residents can more safely reach major destinations without driving.
• Montgomery County Councilman Will Jawando continues to recover after heart attack (fox5dc.com) — Montgomery County Councilmember and county executive candidate Will Jawando is recovering in a D.C. hospital after a weekend heart attack and is expected to make a full recovery, with possible discharge midweek. His health scare matters for Montgomery Village residents because he helps shape countywide policies and budgets that affect local services, and he remains the Democratic nominee for county executive.
