If anyone has read other blogs under Montgomery Village, you will note that I have been pursuing a playground @ Lake Whetstone literally for years but with more fervor since 2011 for not only the children at this 'forgotten end' of the Village but for all children of the Village, particularly those who are physically challenged. I keep hearing and reading about the Whetstone pool and, frankly, am rather tired of it at this point. A fortune has been spent on that pool and, as recent as tonight, I learned MVF and Whetstone community members even incorporated into the pool planning and construction an accessibility chair. I had brought to the table at a meeting 3/23/2011 the idea for playground with accessibility equipment for children. {To this day, no such playground and members of even South Village Board continuing to veto 'any idea of a playground'.} I think that is wonderful that Whetstone ran with that idea to provide a chair for those with disabilities for their new pool and have absolutely nothing against pools and summer fun cooling off in Maryland's history of excessive summer heat. But a pool is only used a couple months out of the year; whereas, a playground can basically be used and enjoyed all year long. It is time that the 'aesthetics' and the 'geese' at Lake Whetstone took a backseat to that desperate need for playground and one that would include all children to play and socialize. The following web site is an example where communities in Virginia have put their best foot forward and definitely put their children 'first on the list'. http://friendsofclemy.com/aboutus.html
