State Issues Driving Advisory for Wednesday

The messy Montgomery County forecast calls for snow in the morning, with sleet in the afternoon.

Wednesday morning’s commute could be a nasty – and icy – one, warns the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Drivers are being urged to delay travel or use public transportation Wednesday, if possible. If you must drive, you should monitor weather forecasts as meteorologists call for the possibility of snow and freezing rain during the morning commute.

The National Weather Service says there is a 60 percent chance of snow before noon, then a chance of snow and sleet. Wednesday’s expected high will be near 31. Snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

On Tuesday, state crews were pre-treating major roads and interstates with salt brine to prevent snow accumulation. Precipitation is likely to freeze on untreated road surfaces Tuesday night as temperatures drop, making any travel dangerous.
