Hooded Solidarity

Members of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church were asked to wear 'hoodies' to honor Trayvon Martin.

Pastor Heber Brown III stood at the pulpit on Sunday, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and told his congregation not to be alarmed if the spirit moved him to put the hood up.

As the choir sang and the congregation rose to its feet clapping and swaying Brown put the hood up.

"Do I look suspicious?" Brown asked.

Members of the the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church were encouraged to wear hooded sweatshirts—known as 'hoodies'—to church to show support for Trayvon Martin.

Martin, 17, was walking back to his father's home in a gated Florida community when he was shot and killed by a community watch volunteer, who had called 911 and reported Martin as suspicious. Martin was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying Skittles and a can of ice tea at the time.

The shooting has sparked outrage and protests across the country.

"It's just like the lord to take a tragedy and make it a chance for revival," Brown said.
