Car Crashes Outside Baltimore Police Headquarters

BALTIMORE, MD – A car that may have been connected to a shooting, whose driver led officers on a citywide pursuit, crashed into police headquarters downtown Friday evening, authorities reported.

“Fortunately, no one downtown was injured. We’re in the heart of rush hour right now. We have a lot of people who are out walking,” Detective Jeremy Silbert said. “Had there been pedestrians out, this really could have been a horrible situation.”

Officers from the northwest district first saw the black Acura while responding to a call about gunshots in the area of the 3800 block of Coldspring Lane around 5 p.m. on Friday, police said.

The Acura appeared to “driving out of the ordinary,” Silbert said.

After officers watched as it hit another vehicle, they began following the Acura along Interstate 83 south, where it hit at least one additional vehicle before crashing into barriers outside the police headquarters building in the 600 block of East Fayette Street.

The woman driving—the only person in the car—was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries, according to police.

At the same time, a 33-year-old man who had been shot in the leg walked into an area hospital with an injury not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Investigators think the incidents are related, police said in a statement Friday evening.
