MARYLAND MEP TO HOST 'MARYLAND MANUFACTURING DAY AT THE YARD,' KICK OFF NATIONAL MANUFACTURING MONTH IN OCTOBER

Event on October 1 Aims to Show Appreciation for Maryland Manufacturers, Inspire Youth to Pursue Careers in Industry

(Columbia, MD) – The Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MD MEP) is excited to announce it is hosting ‘Maryland Manufacturing Day at the Yard,’ a family-friendly celebration of Maryland manufacturing, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Thursday, October 1, as the Baltimore Orioles take on the Toronto Blue Jays. Hosted in partnership with the Regional Manufacturing Institute (RMI) of Maryland, ‘Maryland Manufacturing Day at the Yard’ is being held to show support and appreciation for Maryland-based manufacturing companies and their employees, as well as to inspire and encourage Maryland youth to pursue careers in manufacturing.

Maryland Manufacturing Day at the Yard is the state’s kickoff for National Manufacturing Month, a month-long celebration of manufacturing bringing awareness to and inspiring the next generation of manufacturers. The evening event will feature a pregame event for manufacturers, family and friends. Paul Reed Smith, founder and owner of PRS Guitars, will perform the National Anthem prior to the beginning of the game at 7:05 p.m. Displays prominently placed at the ballpark’s Eutaw Street entrance, between gates A and C, will showcase the work of Maryland manufactures and their employees.

In addition to an array of local manufacturers, advocates for Maryland manufacturing industry attending the event will include Kelly Schulz, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation; Mike Gill, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) and, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.

“My administration, my partners and myself included are excited to be a part of this special event,” Gov. Larry Hogan said in a letter supporting the event. “Manufacturing in Maryland is a robust and dynamic industry, driving the creation of family-supporting jobs, inspiring innovation, and advancing our state’s economy. This event will help highlight the challenging and rewarding careers that Maryland manufacturing has to offer, and reaffirm the importance of manufacturers and their good works in the local communities to our state’s ever-changing economy. With Maryland-made products on display and more than 500 from the industry in attendance, ‘Maryland Manufacturing Day at the Yard’ will help demonstrate the importance of manufacturing to the State of Maryland and aim to inspire the next generation of industry leaders in the state, opening their eyes to the many exciting career opportunities in the manufacturing industry.
