Obama Nominating Enoch Pratt CEO Librarian of Congress

Dr. Carla D. Hayden has been with Enoch Pratt Free Library for more than 20 years and will move on to Washington, D.C.

President Barack Obama announced Wednesday that he plans to nominate Enoch Pratt Free Library CEO Carla D. Hayden as the 14th Librarian of Congress.

“This is truly a great honor to be nominated by President Obama to lead the nation’s library, the Library of Congress,” Dr. Hayden said in a statement. “It is my privilege to serve the Enoch Pratt Free Library and the citizens of Baltimore for more than 20 years, during which time we restored its world-renowned reputation.”

Dr. Hayden has worked for Pratt Library since 1993, overseeing technology updates, building renovations and outreach programs like after-school centers, digitization of special collections, Spanish-speaking offerings and others.

From 2003 to 2004, Dr. Hayden served as president of the American Library Association, and in 1995 she was named Librarian of the Year by Library Journal magazine.

“I want to thank the Pratt librarians and staff, the Board, our donors and partners, and most importantly our patrons for entrusting in us their trust to provide equal access to a variety of programs, services and resources to people across Baltimore and the State of Maryland,” Hayden said.
