What the Newly Single Girl Should Wear on Valentine's Day
Newly alone? Heartbroken? No better time to look your best.
All the newly-single ladies, I know what you’re thinking: Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and if you’re anything like me you’ve felt inundated with non-stop reminders of the holiday.
So just what does that ubiquitous color red red mean to you? A full heart brimming with love or a broken one gushing blood?
I personally have two favorite holidays: Valentine’s Day and Thanksgiving. One celebrates love; the other, gratitude. The two together make me think of the quote: 'Tis better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all.

Whatever.
Single ladies, perhaps you have suffered recent heartbreak (or a hurt that still lingers). Perhaps you have really tested the limits of that waterproof mascara. Perhaps he turned out to be exactly the kind of guy your friends and family warned you he would be, and just now, months later, you've figured it out.

But before you take another moment and reach over for that pint of ice cream or refill your glass of wine, take a second, look around, and, just like Thanksgiving, be grateful.
You live in a place where you can make any decision you choose. You have the luxury to take the time to date. You can vote. You can drive (OK, maybe not well; We are women after all.) You don’t have an arranged marriage. You have a computer and are reading this, which most likely means you don’t have to worry about where you’re going to sleep tonight (just with who.)
You have friends who care about you so much that they have listened for hours despite your post traumatic breakup disorder. And although you may boldly declare that you are never dating again, eventually that will subside and you’ll definitely try again and break up—again. And your friends, as always, will be there for that, too, even when you resemble a fragment of yourself and channel 90s heroin chic with deep raccoon eyes.
This heartbreak may be sore, but recognize it as a reflection of the many blessings that you have, blessings that most women worldwide are lacking.
So what should the single girl wear on Valentine’s Day? Whatever she wants.
Because you can and that’s awesome.
If you run into him—Just look fabulous, smile, and remember to KSA. (Kick Some Ass, old field hockey slogan.)
It’s what Chanel would do.
