Accidental Fire Leaves Family Displaced, $500K In Damages

A family was displaced Monday after an accidental house fire broke out in Darnestown, authorities said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A family of 14 was displaced Monday after their home in Darnestown caught fire, amounting to about $500,000 in damages.

One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Pete Piringer, of the Montgomery Fire and Rescue Service, said officials were called to the house fire on 13300 Darnestown Road at 6:45 a.m.

Early findings indicate the fire was accidental and that it originated in an attached garage with an extension into the home. Estimates place structural damages at $300,000 and another $200,000 in contents.

Investigators said nine adults and five children were displaced.

More than 50 firefighters had responded to the scene.
