Bites Nearby: O’Donnell’s Sea Grill

A historic family-run local chain in Kentlands.

Every meal at O’Donnell’s Sea Grill in the Kentlands is a “historical” event. Since 1922, the O’Donnell family restaurants have dotted the Wahington, D.C. landscape, starting with Tom O’Donnell’s “Sea Grill” on E. Street in NW.

The menu reflects years of tradition, especially the signature dishes which include the famous Backfin Crab Cakes and Norfolk Style Sautéed Shellfish selections –all original, trademark recipes dating back to the restaurant’s origin. Maryland Rockfish and Seafood Bisque are other highly-favored dishes. And no patron leaves without sampling O’Donnell’s famous Rum Buns.

O’Donnell’s Happy Hour (Mon. - Fri. 4 - 7 p.m.) gets rave reviews from local diners where appetizers in generous portions at excellent prices can be had by all, along with $2-$3 draft beers. Fare for fish lovers includes Fried Calamari, Steamed Spiced Shrimp and Crab Dip, but turf lovers will not be disappointed with the Hamburger Sliders, which happen to be a customer favorite. For the undecided, Surf and Turf Sliders include both crabcake and hamburger sliders.

The warm, cozy, family-friendly atmosphere and cheerful staff really set O’Donnell’s apart from the competition. Bill Edelblut, owner and manager of O’Donnell’s since its’ 1997 opening (and Tom O’Donnell’s grandson), is rightfully proud of his family-oriented establishment and its’ uniquely old roots in the D.C. area.

O’Donnell’s Sea Grill is the culmination of nearly 100 years of great family seafood dining experiences. Don’t miss it. Located at 311 Kentlands Blvd.; (301)519-1650; Open Mon. - Thu.  11:30 a.m. - 10 p.m., Fri. - Sat. 11:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., Sun. 11:30 - 9 p.m.
