Moms Talk: Fun, Travel Top August To-Do List

As we approach the final month of summer what is still on your "to-do" list with the kids? Are you going on vacation? Maybe getting them to the splash park or a game of putt-putt? Or maybe you want to get them back into the "routine" and will work on completing the math packets and summer reading assignments.

We have a few things on our to-do list still, and I am starting to feel the crunch of getting it all in. We want to go bowling, get to the Poolesville pool, have a few more playdates, hit the county fair as well as a few other things. We are going to visit friends in New Jersey where we will get another day at the beach and a day at the lake. Two of my kids will also go to camp the week before school starts. I'm hoping this will get them into the routine of getting up and out of the house everyday and prepare them for the start of school.

School shopping is almost all done and we will just have to sort through the supplies and label and stuff backpacks. My kids like to lay everything out that we bought and then they go down the line of supplies and "shop" at home for their supplies right before school. This excites them as they put all their new supplies in their backpack for school.

We still have a few things left on our "to-do" list. My son is at "Adventure Camp" this week based in Harper's Ferry. My daughter is finishing up her online health class and earning a few dollars babysitting / dog sitting for neighbors who are out of town. Next week we leave for our trip to Quebec where we can practice our French, eat amazing food and burn all those calories off hiking, biking and hopefully spot some whales in the process.

Both my children have been working on their summer assignments since we returned from our earlier trip to Costa Rica. In the past we would wait until the last week of the holidays to start these, but I can't do that any more—especially when both kids hate math, my son in particular—so we have to attack it on a daily basis until it is done. Fortunately, the reading assignments always go much quicker and easier. We have a couple of days when we get back from Quebec to get organized and do our before they go back to school. Then I can breath a big sigh of relief and get caught up on all the work I've put off while they have been home.
