UPDATE: Crofton Father Dies, 6-Day-Old Baby Survives Rollover Crash
A crash early Wednesday on Interstate 97 in the Millersville area killed a Crofton man and injured his fiancee and their 6-day-old son.
(Updated at 3:20 p.m.) ODENTON, MD — A 6-day-old baby restrained in a car seat survived a rollover accident early Wednesday morning that killed his father, a Crofton man, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. The fatal crash happened about 3:20 a.m. on I-97 North near Brightview Drive.
An SUV had overturned, and the driver of the vehicle was trapped inside, while a rear seat passenger was thrown from the vehicle, authorities said. The driver, Lonnie Martin, 25, was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
Martin's fiancee and the baby's mother, Emily Barrett, 23, who was ejected in the crash was taken by paramedics to the Adult Trauma Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital with injuries that were serious but not believed to be life-threatening. Paramedics took the infant to the Pediatric Trauma Center at John Hopkins Children’s Center with no obvious injuries.

Authorities say the newborn was apparently properly restrained in a child seat.
Maryland State Police say that Martin's Nissan Pathfinder was traveling at a high rate of speed, reports the Capital-Gazette. Martin was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, police said, and drugs and alcohol don't appear to be a factor in the crash.
