Anne Arundel County Police Urge Caution in Online Buys

MILLERSVILLE, MD — The holidays are quickly approaching and more people will make purchases from online classified advertisements. If you do conduct online classified transactions local police urge you to remember Transaction Safe Place.

Anne Arundel County Police 'Transaction Safe Place'

The Anne Arundel County Police Department says its concerned with conducting online classified transactions. Sites such as Craigslist, online yard sales on Facebook, and Oodle are just a few sites that often require transactions to be finalized in person.

These transactions provide an opportunity for the criminal element to take advantage of unsuspecting citizens. It is because of this, that the Anne Arundel County Police Department offers its facilities as a Transaction Safe Place. The buyers and sellers may use any of the department's four district locations, as well as headquarters as a safe place to meet and conduct their transaction(s). The use of the front parking lot and/or lobby provides a safe, public place, to meet yet serve as a deterrent for criminals.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is willing to assist, when needed, to ensure that a transaction does not involve stolen property. If a buyer would like to check on an item, an officer will be dispatched to check the item’s serial number in National Crime Information Center databases.

The Transaction Safe Place can be used at any of the following locations and times.
