Book Buddies Reading Program

The Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland is happy to announce the launch of our new Book Buddies program.

THREE…TWO…ONE…..…LAUNCH…Book Buddies!!!!!

The Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland (Severn, MD) is happy to announce the launch of our new Book Buddies program. This program is modeled after other shelter’s successful programs, inviting children to read aloud to our senior pups.

Reading to dogs provides comfort and lowers anxiety levels from kennel life. Children benefit as well by increasing reading skills, positive interactions with the dogs, and nurturing empathy in our future dog lovers. Additionally, children will be taught the basics of recognizing behavioral signs of a dog (afraid, happy, etc.).

If you know of a small group (8 – 10) of children (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, dance group, play group, etc.) who would be interested in scheduling a Book Buddies session, please send an email to bookbuddies@sdsanctuary.com. Book Buddies sessions will be scheduled once a month beginning in October 2016.
