Okay, so admittedly I don't know the exact number of days, but I DO know that school will be out soon.
This brings about mixed emotions for me. On one hand, I cannot wait for my personal vacation from 'waking the bear' (my NOT such a morning person of a son :) for three months, however, I CAN do without the added trail of food crumbs, dirty laundry, and whatever else might surface, that will await me each day when I get home from work. Aaaah, the joys of having a 'tween (12 yr old :).
With the myriad of activities and camps that will be available to us, and other Odenton residents, however, the "damage" might not be so bad.
GORC (Gambrills Odenton Recreational Council) will have practices starting in mid July for their Fall/Winter leagues, and you had better believe we are already registered for football. But, what to do until then? (in between the trips to OC, visiting the grandparents, and countless weekends at the community pools, I mean :)

There are several camps that you can check out. Wheels Skate Center offers camps every summer, and this year is no different. Park's Martial Arts is another local establishment that has a camp to keep the kids busy AND learn a martial art. Any time you can keep the kids busy AND physically active is a great thing! Likewise, Win Win Gymnastics, Arts 'n Motion, and several others offer parents a 'reprieve' and the kids a place to burn some energy while learning, or continuing in a sport or activity that they will (hopefully) continue to enjoy as they get older.
Let's face it. If you say "let's exercise!" most kids will do it, via running in the other direction :) However, if you offer them a chance to get away from the parents, meet other kids, and be active doing things they enjoy, you are going to help to foster a life long appreciation for fitness and creativity.
So, I shall continue to count down, if not exactly down to the days, but the general idea of when my morning commute will no longer be shared with school busses, and remind myself that for every dirty plate and miscellanous item I will find strewn about my house when I return home from work, I am also getting one year closer to my child being too OLD for summer camp and watching him play football for his COLLEGE team.
And, I will find myself back again, filled with mixed emotions :)
One day at a time....one day at a time :)
