Summer Activities in Piney Orchard

The Activities Committee has a busy summer planned for Piney Orchard residents.

I attended the monthly Activities Committee meeting last night at the Community Center for us to regroup after the Street Festival to discuss what we would like to see different next year, what we liked from this year and what needs to be added if we get permission to hold it again.

We also discussed the upcoming events for the summer in Piney Orchard.  The committee has put together a busy schedule for the community that we're pretty sure you will enjoy.

The Island Pool movie nights are always a huge hit.  The movies are shown on a 21-foot inflatable screen and you can bring a float to the pool (which is not allowed during the regular pool hours). You must be a Piney Orchard resident with a valid access card to attend. Guests are not allowed to attend these events for safety reasons because of the huge turn out at the pool. The committee chose "Yogi Bear," "The Ant Bully" and "Up" for the movies  this summer.

On the other side of the community, the activities committee has Bands by the Pond scheduled on four Saturday afternoons.  Two of the bands that are scheduled this year performed at the Street Festival, Marv & the Mangos and Adrenaline.  The other two bands are the Chesapeake Steel Drum Band and Latin Jazz.  We have also arranged for Expressway Pit Beef to sell sandwiches and sno-cones during the performances so you can have a picnic while listening to the Bands (except June 11).

So while you're thinking of things to do this summer, think about what your community has to offer that's right down the street and the planning has already been done for you.

All of this information will be posted at the pools and in the residents newsletter that you'll receive shortly.

Hope to see you around the community.
