Chesapeake Beach Man Dies in Waugh Chapel Pond (ICYMI)

Anne Arundel County authorities removed a man's body from a pond at Waugh Chapel April 29. Why he went into the water remains a mystery.

GAMBRILLS, MD — Authorities have not yet determined why a man went into a Gambrills retention pond Friday night, where his body was later found.

Divers removed a body from the retaining pond behind the Waugh Chapel stores Friday night.

The drowning victim has been identified as Jeremy Jerome Spriggs, 32, of Chesapeake Beach, say Anne Arundel County Police.

"At this time we believe the individual entered the pond under his own power, but we are still investigating as to the circumstances why," the police department said on Facebook.

Spriggs was seen floating face-down in the pond behind Grotto Pizza on Brandermill Boulevard. The site is between the Village at Waugh Chapel and Waugh Chapel Towne Centre shopping centers.
