Days of Summer: Spalding Sports Camps

Today's highlighted summer camp in our special feature, Days of Summer.

Archbishop Spalding will conduct 14 sports camps beginning June 20 and ending August 5. 

“We offer a varied selection of summer youth sport camps from which to choose,” said Lee Dove, Spalding Athletic Director. “The updated and new facilities in addition to a respected and successful coaching staff help to facilitate a positive atmosphere for all campers.”

Three camps get under way next Monday June 20, with boys basketball run by former Maryland great , , ages 6-14, conducted by new coach Don Restley and , led by Spalding assistant coach Adam DeCosmo.

Lewis will lead two boy's basketball camps for children age 7-16 from June 20-24 and again July 25-29. His goal will be to improve player skills and foster enthusiasm for the game. Lewis will be entering his third years as the Spalding head coach and was first team All-ACC in 1987 and is the Maryland Terrapins All-Time leader in blocked shots.

Spalding’s wrestling program was one of the best in the nation this past winter and DeCosmo was a big reason for that success which should translate to a fantastic camp.

The , which boasts a brand new eight-lane facility, is led by Brian Funk, former division one collegiate head coach and coach of three high school national champions. The track and field and cross country camp will begin July 6-10, and will also feature boys coach Andy Witte, along with other area coaches and special guests.

Spalding head coach Jeff Palumbo, former Bowie State head coach, is fresh off of leading the Cavaliers to the championship title and will conduct two camps from July 11-15 for ages 6-12, and from July 18-21 for ages 12-15.
