Father, Sister Charged With Smuggling Drugs Into Jessup Prison

The relatives of a prisoner are among 20 defendants charged in the Jessup prison smuggling ring, including inmates and prison employees.

JESSUP, MD — Corey Alston, 29, has been an inmate at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup since pleading guilty in September to a racketeering charge. Alston's father Aldon, 56, and sister Ashley, 28, of Baltimore have since pleaded guilty to a federal racketeering charge for smuggling into prison Suboxone strips; Percocet; tobacco; K2, a synthetic marijuana; and MDMA, the drug known as “Molly” or ecstasy.

Prosecutors say Alston's father and sister managed the proceeds of his contraband sales. In 2017, they gave banned items to prison employees in exchange for bribes, according to the Baltimore Sun. The Alstons are among 20 defendants charged in the smuggling ring, including inmates, prison employees and others. The Alstons will be sentenced in March and face a maximum penalty of 20 years.
