BROOKLYN, MD — Anne Arundel County firefighters responded to a house fire March 3 shortly after midnight. The fire broke out at a home in Arundel Village at 5204 6th St. More than two dozen firefighters from Anne Arundel County and the Baltimore Fire Department battled the blaze that caused an estimated $30,000 damage.

The occupant of the home reported a fire in the walls. He told the 911 operator that he had gone to bed, but hadn't yet fallen asleep when he smelled smoke. After checking out the smell, he detected a fire within the kitchen wall. He attempted to put out the fire himself, according to an incident report from the fire department. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had spread into the attic. The man was displaced and is being assisted by the Red Cross. Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit determined that it was an accidental fire.
