Former Fort Meade Worker Says She Was Harassed, Called 'Witch': Media Report

Dental contractor charges U.S. Air Force with religious discrimination.

A contractor with the U.S. Air Force is alleging that she was fired from her job last month at a Fort Meade dental clinic due to religious discrimination.

Deborah Schoenfeld told Air Force Times that co-workers at the Epes Dental Clinic harassed her over her Hindu faith and accused her of being a witch. Two co-workers confirmed her account to the weekly military newspaper and said that other clinic workers are devoutly Christian and deeply suspicious of Hinduism.

Schoenfeld has filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She also turned to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) to represent her, Air Force Times reported.

In a letter to Air Force officials, MRFF President Mikey Weinstein accuses the service of practicing religious discrimination, saying that Schoenfeld’s dismissal violates the Constitution and a “vast sea” of Pentagon and Air Force rules and regulations. To read Weinstein’s letter, click here.

An Air Force spokesman said the service has received the letter and is looking into the allegations.
