HANOVER, MD — A new donation center named GreenDrop opened on Feb. 25 outside the Arundel Mills mall. The organization will support nonprofits like the American Red Cross, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Foundation and the National Federation of the Blind.

GreenDrop accepts donations of lightly used clothing, blankets and houseware. These donations then fund GreenDrop's charitable partners.

“We are thrilled to bring our sustainable services to Hanover and provide an innovative, earth-friendly way for Maryland residents to support deserving nonprofits,” GreenDrop General Manager Matthew Lomberg said in a press release. “We look forward to being an integral part of the Hanover community.”

GreenDrop is located in the parking lot at 7055 Arundel Mills Circle. The donation center sits across from Chick-fil-A, and it is open daily from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Donors can drive up to the site anytime during those hours. A uniformed attendant will collect the items and ask which nonprofit they want to support. Donors will then get a tax-deductible receipt.

Last year, the organization averaged about 100 tons of donations each week. That led to about $4.2 million in charitable payments.

GreenDrop has more than 35 locations spread between Virginia, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

"This is GreenDrop's first location in Anne Arundel County," County Executive Steuart Pittman said on Facebook after attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "We're proud to welcome them as they help our residents donate to great charities and keep our planet clean."
